Supplement bottle render.

Supplement branding is the positioning, name, visual identity, label, packaging, and website that tell a shopper your product is worth trusting with their health. We build all of it as one system for supplement and nutrition brands, from pre-workouts to clinical longevity lines, so the tub on the shelf, the product page, and the ad all look and sound like the same company. A small team of senior designers handles every piece, backed by 150+ projects and 20+ years of design experience.

What does supplement branding include?

A complete supplement brand covers six connected pieces. Most brands buy them from different vendors and spend the next year patching the gaps.

  • Positioning and naming: who the product is for, what it does better, and a memorable name, with guidance on trademarking.
  • Visual identity: logo, color, type, and the rules that keep them consistent across every SKU.
  • Label and packaging design: front panel, Supplement Facts panel, flavor and SKU variants, and print-ready files.
  • Website: a Shopify store built around how supplement shoppers actually decide.
  • Product renders: photoreal 3D visuals for launch, ads, and Amazon before the first production run.
  • Launch assets: the email, social, and ad creative that carry the system into the market.

You can start with one piece. Everything is designed to connect, so what you add later fits instead of fighting it. See how each piece works on our branding & identity page.

What does a supplement label need?

Every dietary supplement label sold in the US needs five required elements: a statement of identity, the net quantity of contents, a Supplement Facts panel, an ingredient list, and the name and place of business of the manufacturer, packer, or distributor. Where each one sits, and how big it is, is regulated too.

The Supplement Facts panel has its own formatting rules under 21 CFR 101.36: serving size, servings per container, each dietary ingredient with its amount per serving, % Daily Value where one exists, and set footnotes. Type size, rules, and order are specified, so a panel that "looks close" can still be noncompliant.

Claims are where most new brands get into trouble. A structure/function claim like "supports recovery" is allowed, but it needs the FDA disclaimer ("This statement has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration...") on the same panel, and the brand has to notify FDA within 30 days of first marketing it. A disease claim like "treats joint pain" turns the product into an unapproved drug in the FDA's eyes.

This is why we treat supplement label design as structural work, not decoration. We lay out the panel from your manufacturer's formula sheet, flag claims that need review, and build the hierarchy so the front panel sells while the back panel complies. Final sign-off on claims stays with you and your manufacturer or regulatory counsel, who know your formulation and testing. Our job is to make sure the design supports that review instead of creating rework.

What makes supplement packaging stand out?

Supplement packaging stands out by breaking one category convention on purpose while keeping everything a shopper needs to decide in the first few seconds. Pre-workouts lean neon and aggressive. Longevity brands lean clinical white. Copying the category makes you invisible; ignoring it makes you confusing.

Good supplement packaging design also has to survive production. Labels wrap around curved tubs, so text near the seam disappears. Metallic and clear stocks shift color. A flavor system has to work for the third and the tenth SKU, not just the first two. We design with your dieline, print method, and finishes from the start, so files pass prepress on the first round. More on our approach on the supplement packaging design page.

Can AI design a supplement label?

No, and we don't use it for labels. AI image tools can't produce a compliant Supplement Facts panel, they invent ingredients and claims, and they regress to whatever the category already looks like. We sometimes use AI for carefully directed imagery, but never labels. The label, the panel, and every production file are built by hand.

If you've made AI concepts to show your vision, bring them. They help us understand what you're picturing. We still start the design from scratch.

Does a supplement brand need a custom website?

If you sell direct, yes. Your website is where a shopper checks what you can't fit on the label: why each ingredient is there, the dose, third-party testing, and how you compare to the tub they already buy. A template store rarely answers those questions in the order people ask them.

Our supplement website design work runs on Shopify. Product pages lead with the outcome, then back it up with ingredients, dosing, and testing. Subscriptions and bundles are set up from day one. The claims rules that apply to your label apply to your product pages and ads too, so we write and lay out pages with the same compliance lens. Read more on our website design page.

Once the site is live, we also run email flows and paid ads for supplement brands that want one team on brand and marketing.

Should you use your manufacturer's design team?

Usually not for your brand. Contract manufacturers often offer label design, and it's tempting because it's cheap and fast. The results tend to look templated, because they're built from the same layouts used for dozens of other brands on the same line.

What you do want from your manufacturer is their specs: dieline, label dimensions, print method, and their formula sheet. We work directly from those, and we're used to coordinating with manufacturers' teams so files arrive the way production needs them.

Do you need product renders before launch?

Most brands do. You need images for the website, Amazon, pre-orders, and investor or retail decks before a single unit ships. Photoreal 3D product renders solve that. They're built from real 3D models of your actual container and label, not AI generations, so every angle and flavor stays accurate. When the label changes, the renders update without a reshoot. How we work with supplement brands

Every project runs in four phases. First we align on goals, audience, scope, and your manufacturer's requirements. Then we design across every surface with strategy leading. You give feedback at defined checkpoints, so changes are deliberate and the project keeps moving. Finally we deliver a complete, organized system: brand guidelines, print-ready label files, the website, and renders, ready for production and launch.

If you're still mapping out your launch, start with our guide on how to launch a wellness brand or our take on why clean label supplements now need proof, not promises.
